From Legacy to Innovation: Ten Italian Brands Arrive at La Feria De Diseño Medellín 2026

September 4, 2026

By: laferiadediseno

Some designs reveal their origins before you even read the name behind them. In Italy, that identity emerges from the meeting point between creativity, industry, technical expertise and material culture. The result is a body of work capable of moving across generations and spaces without losing its relevance.

La Feria De Diseño Medellín powered by idd cologne will bring this universe to Medellín through an institutional space presented by ITA – Bogotá Office, featuring furniture, lighting, home appliances and interior solutions that combine quality, functionality and innovation.

Ten Perspectives on Italian Design

The participating brands will be Artemide, Cassina, Cattelan Italia, Flexform, iGuzzini, Kartell, Living Divani, Natuzzi Editions, Poltrona Frau and Smeg.

Each brand represents a distinct dimension of Made in Italy. Together, they show how the Italian design industry brings together material research, technical expertise, manufacturing tradition and a contemporary approach to spaces.

Their established presence in Colombia reflects the strength of the relationship between both countries. These companies understand the local market, provide solutions for projects of different scales and contribute to an ongoing commercial and creative exchange.

A Market Seeking Design and Differentiation

ITA arrives at La Feria at a favorable moment for Colombia’s furniture and decoration market. According to figures provided by the institution, sector imports exceeded USD 479 million in 2025, up 11% from the previous year. During the first half of 2026, imports reached USD 241 million, representing a 14% increase compared with the same period in 2025.

Italy ranks as the fourth-largest international supplier of furniture and decoration products to Colombia and leads among European countries. Italian exports to Colombia reached USD 12.3 million in 2025, a 21% increase year over year. Between January and June 2026, they totaled USD 5.9 million, up 5.4% from the same period the previous year.

Furniture and furniture parts account for nearly 60% of Colombian imports from Italy within the sector. The category grew by 22.3% during the first half of 2026, signaling positive momentum for specialized, higher-value design solutions.

New Opportunities in Colombia

This momentum coincides with growing interest in high-quality products, innovative materials and solutions that combine sustainability, technology and functionality. The hospitality, residential, commercial and contract sectors are also driving demand for more specialized equipment and design solutions.

This landscape creates new opportunities for Italian companies while giving the Colombian market access to fresh references in materials, manufacturing processes and project development. La Feria turns these conditions into opportunities for exchange, collaboration and new business connections.

ITA: A Bridge Between Design and Markets

The Italian Trade Agency supports the international development of Made in Italy and promotes trade and technological exchange, with particular attention to small and medium-sized enterprises.

With a century of experience and a network of 87 offices in 74 countries, the agency provides market intelligence, supports the identification of business partners and commercial opportunities, and organizes official Italian pavilions at international trade fairs and exhibitions.

Its participation in La Feria aims to strengthen the presence of Italian design in Colombia and deepen its connection with the regional ecosystem of architecture, interior design and the creative industries.

Design as a Cultural Expression

Culture plays an essential role within this vision. In 2026, Italian Design Day celebrated its tenth edition under the theme RE-DESIGN. Regenerating spaces, objects, ideas, relationships, inviting reflection on the role of design and architecture in urban regeneration, the circular economy, social wellbeing and the conscious use of materials.

The programme also included the exhibition Carissimo Pinocchio, which brought together interpretations by artists and graphic designers around one of the most universal characters in Italian culture, connecting creativity, industry, craftsmanship and heritage.

Italy and Colombia Meet in Medellín

In September, Italian industry, culture and innovation will come together in Medellín. The participation of ITA and the ten brands will showcase the evolution of Made in Italy while opening new possibilities for collaboration between Italy, Colombia, Latin America and the Caribbean.
